I've Been Featured!

I follow a wonderfully inspiring blog called Better After that takes things like old, crusty, or boring furniture and gives it new life in various ways (new fabric, paint, etc.). Recently I'd been on the hunt for a Gossip Bench. A few weeks ago I'd seen one online that someone had redone and I FELL.IN.LOVE immediately. I decided that I, too, had to redo my very own Gossip Bench! I checked Craigslist and, much to my dismay, they were going for anywhere from $50 (a "cheap" one) to over $100. Wow. Not what I expected! I gave the good old Lord a quick shout and told Him, "Hey God, I'd really like to get my hands on one of those cool benches. If You could help me out with that, I'd be super excited."

A week passed and we decided to do a little thrift shopping at Goodwill here in town. We walked through the store browsing dishes, books, bedding, etc. Right at the close of our time there, Robby rounded a corner and, BOOM, right there staring at him was a Gossip Bench! How much was it, you ask? TEN DOLLARS. Yes, you read that right- Just ten measly little bucks! Talk about one happy mama. Uh huh. So we bought that sweet little thing, ran to another store for paint and fabric, came home, put down the two smallest kiddos for their naps, and got to work!

We sanded, I reupholstered the seat, we painted, let dry, painted again, and so on. After several coats of happy, yellow paint over the course of a couple days, she was finished! And now she sits in my living room, waiting for her move to North AR to live in a big house in the mountains where she can shiiiine.

The coolest thing about this entire project? My creation was featured on Better After! When I saw that post, I literally jumped for joy! Robby was all exited and making cheesy comments, like, "Sitting on this thing- I feel like I'm sitting on a celebrity!" Ha. Nerd alert.

Total project costs:

Bench $10.00

Fabric $1.00

Paint $18.35

TOTAL $29.35
