A Beautiful Sound

It's been a busy week for this redheaded bunch. The highlight being my midwife appointment yesterday afternoon. Robby took off half a day from work and we all drove to Conway together (it took us a solid hour to get there). Once we arrived at Kim's office, we went inside and she saw us immediately (a nice change from the 1-2 hour waits at my former OBGYN's office). We spent an hour visiting and talking, filling out forms, discussing the items I'll need to have at the birth, and then we did the official "checkup". I was weighed (I've gained about 4-5 lbs, which is a pretty drastic difference from the 10 lbs I gained with Jasper during the first trimester alone!), peed in a cup (did my own strip), had my blood pressure taken (nice and low), and then I laid back to hear the heartbeat. As soon as Kim put the doppler to my belly, she hit the jackpot! The wee one's beats were beautifully strong and consistent. No matter how many babies I have, those first sounds of the heartbeat are truly breathtaking. Robby said he was really glad he went with me because he'd have been "jealous" knowing that I got to hear baby and he didn't. How sweet is that? When the appointment was over we drove down the road to Whole Hog Cafe and had the best BBQ I have ever put into my mouth. Wish I had some now!

My next prenatal will be with a local doctor who frequently does risk assessments for homebirths for the Little Rock midwives (I'm required by law to have at least two prenatals with an OB during my pregnancy). Kim says he's awesome. That appointment is set for April 2nd and will hopefully include an ultrasound (if not that day, they'll schedule one for soon afterward) and we can find out what kind of baby I'm carrying! Following that prenatal, I have another scheduled with Kim on April 29th. Busy, busy!

Everyone around here is doing well. The kids are healthy and happy and could not be better friends. Honestly, it's almost weird how much they love each other. :-) Sure, they fuss throughout the day, but there's yet to be any kind of real "fight". I recently removed Ireland from gymnastics classes and we're looking into trying out something else. Perhaps something that both of the kids can do together. Robby has been swamped at work, but he's been doing such an awesome job of unwinding with us once he gets home. We've been spending tons of family time together lately and it's so priceless. I'm still very slowly working on my birth doula certification and have a client right now who is 35 weeks pregnant. She's taking natural childbirth classes at Birth Works and she's really coming along well in her boldness and courage to birth naturally for the first time (this will be her third baby). I'm proud. I have a meeting with her this weekend, but aside from that, more family time for us! And, boy, I am loving this Spring-like weather lately. I can't wait to go camping later in the season!
