Time for an update!

I suppose I should update this blog. I have been in a writing funk lately. There's just been lots going on and I sometimes find it difficult to sit down and record divided thoughts. But here goes...

I'm 24 weeks pregnant. I don't want to complain because I'm so grateful to be carrying this little man. I can't wait to meet him and get to know him, but to think it will be at least another 16 weeks before I can do so makes me impatient. I had an appointment with my midwife last Wednesday afternoon. After a long drive to her office, I had to pee like mad! I swear, I pee more during this pregnancy than with either of my previous two; on average it's at least once an hour! Even at night. Which, of course, doesn't make for good sleep. Anyway, I spent an hour with Kim (midwife) and we talked about the pregnancy and things related to growing my family in the future. I told her that I've been having a difficult time with frequent aches and pains that I didn't experience with Ireland or Jasper until I was quite a bit farther along. I can definitely tell that with each pregnancy, it's harder on my body. I was weighed (doing fine in that area), had my blood pressure taken, and then I laid back so Kim could measure my belly and feel around for the baby. Upon taking my measurements, she hesitated and started over and took them again. Then she told me, "Wow, you're measuring four weeks ahead". Really? Granted, measuring ahead isn't uncommon in most any pregnancy, but a full month? It's a little odd. We discussed reasons for a mother to measure ahead and we ruled out both multiple babies (had an ultrasound at nearly 17 weeks to disprove this) and mistaken conception dates (I'd been obsessively charting for months prior to and during the time this baby was conceived). So that leaves us thinking that, most likely, baby had a bit of a growth spurt recently and I'll eventually catch up. But just to be careful, Kim wants me to have another ultrasound to check the position of the placenta and keep me coming for prenatals that are no more than 5 weeks apart. So, yeah, we shall see what comes of that.

My family and I leave for Perdido Key, Florida early Wednesday morning. We're all so READY for this vacation. We're picking up my mom (better known as "Nana") in Mississippi along the way and she's going with us. I cannot wait to get out of here for a week! Praise God for time away from the norm! Our condo is right on the beach with two bedrooms, two baths, a full kitchen, and full view of the Gulf. There's also a really nice pool that can be used when I'm sick of the salt water (I am a fresh water kind of gal) or there are swimming restrictions for the day. I just want to lay on the beach and read my awesome book (Baby Catcher: Chronicals of a Modern Midwife), hit up the spa for a facial with my mama, eat tons of seafood, and rest in the fact that I have so little responsibilites over the next few days.

Mother's Day was great! We spent it with my extended family over at my grandparent's house. We ate a huge lunch, exchanged some cards/gifts, and sat around visiting with one another. There's always a crowd at my Mamaw and Papaw's! As a gift, Robby gave me his "time". He is perhaps one of the world's busiest people (full-time job, college, in the worship band at church, etc.) and he knows how sad I can become when he's too wrapped up in outside life. So this Mother's Day I received a card with a beautiful hand written message inside, a single red rose, candy, and a timer with 60 minutes set on it. I asked what it was for and he said, "Whenever you need it, I am to drop whatever it is I am doing and give you sixty minutes of my time, on four separate occasions, no questions asked". SO SWEET. *swoon* It was a good day.

  1. The condo looks really nice! How fun! I hope you just soak up every minute- and it feels like 2 weeks! :>) That was a really sweet and creative mother's day present from Robby! Good job, man! I love ya'll! Be careful and have a blast on your trip!
