It's been crazy and chaotic around here lately. Last Thursday afternoon, I stepped out onto the porch with both kids to enjoy the incredibly beautiful, warm, sunny spring-like day. About 10 minutes into this relaxing endeavor, Jasper managed to trip and do a face plant into the concrete. He cried for approximately 15 seconds and then ran off to play with his sister. Thinking all was well, I went about checking the mail and smiling into the sun. Half an hour later, we all went back inside and as I was changing Jasper's diaper in preparation of laying him down for his afternoon nap, I noticed that he was grabbing at one of his teeth. Upon inspection, I was struck with horror when I saw that one of his top front teeth was cracked both horizontally and vertically (in the shape of a capital T)! Needless to say, I freaked. I called Robby, exclaiming that my beautiful boy busted his tooth and, of course, our insurance doesn't kick in until April 1st (due to Robby's job switch in December). Then I remembered that a close friend of mine has a son who experienced a similar accident, so I called her to ask for advice. Upon hanging up with her, I phoned what seemed like a hundred local dentists before finally finding one that would see Jasper within the next hour. My dear, sweet, selfless friend Allison woke up her daughter from a nap to immediately zoom over to my house, pick up my kids and I, and race us to the dentist's office (as it just so happens, Robby's car broke down last week and he's been taking my Jeep to work, so I had no transportation). While the dentist examined Jazz, he didn't move a muscle and cooperated completely. Mr. Dentist couldn't believe that a two year old was behaving so well in that big chair, with a bright light in his eyes, and having never been in that position before. Anyway, I was told that the tooth couldn't be saved (which, of course, caused me to burst into tears like some hormonal pregnant lady) and that it'd need to be taken out as soon as possible. We managed to find a children's dentist that could schedule him the following morning and I stayed up all night ridden with anxiety. Friday morning Robby took Jasper to his appointment and it was finished in half an hour! The dentist said he did wonderfully and that all of the nurses fell head-over-heels for my little guy. Once that was over, Robby took Master Jasper to the store for a new toy because he was such a good boy. :-) So now I have a snaggle toothed son for the next few years. We've taken to calling him "Puck" (as in, he now highly resembles a hockey player).
Aside from that catastrophe, Rotavirus recently hit my home with a vengeance. Ireland had terrible diarrhea with minimal vomiting all of last week and into the weekend. Poor girl even had her mama up in the middle of the night many times with her sickies. The day after Jasper's tooth removal, he was struck terribly with constant vomiting that wouldn't allow even a sip of water to remain in his stomach. I was worried sick about dehydration (very common with Rotavirus) because he hadn't peed a single time all day. But upon inspection of his diaper in the middle of the night, I discovered plenty of urine! Boy oh boy, I had never in my life been so ecstatic to feel the warm, wet sensation of pee pee on my finger. Since then he's had a little diarrhea and Ireland seems to be all better again. Talk about exhausting!
In more positive news, we've been hunting a good, low cost bunk bed for the kids (who will be sharing a room when baby #3 arrives) and, in what I am convinced was a total God thing, we now have it and more! Our price range was $200-$300 for the bed and mattresses, but I was on Craigslist last week and found an entire childrens bedroom set for just $250! Robby, my sister, and her boyfriend Mike picked it up on Sunday (while I stayed home with recovering kidlets) and it is not only most likely the best quality furniture we own, but it's super cute too! The bed is a full size on bottom and a twin on top (complete with mattresses) and came with a neat armoire, as well as a six drawer dresser/vanity. I'm so happy! Last night Jasper spent his very first night outside his crib and on the bottom bunk of the new bed. I figured it'd be an adjustment for him, but he did absolutely perfectly. I am continuously amazed by that kid, I swear. We'll move Ireland into the room within the next few months. That, I imagine, really will be a transition for both of them.
Moving on to things pregnancy related, I am 15 weeks along and my regular clothes aren't going to fit much longer. The bras got tossed to the side a while back, shirts are beginning to ride up too high, and I now have only two pair of jeans that still fit. I am not a fan of maternity clothes, so I'm trying to hold out for as long as I can before doing the big switcharoo. My next prenatal appointment is scheduled with a local OB on April 2nd, but I may have to reschedule due to insurance issues that may or may not be ironed out at that time. Also, there's no guarantee that the doctor will have me scheduled for an ultrasound that day- like I very much desire-, so Robby and I have made a decision to have an elective one done either next week (at 16.5 weeks) or the following week. I spoke with the lady that runs the business and performs the sonograms and she said that at 16 weeks it is almost always easy to determine the sex of the baby and that at her clinic it's very successful even that early. I have approval from my midwife and interest from the hubs, so I will be calling tomorrow to make the official appointment. I can't wait!
Happy March to y'all!

Made the ultrasound appointment! It's set for next Wednesday, March 18th @ 2:30 pm.
Jasper was up all night with terrible diarrhea and minimal vomiting. Just when you think it's ending, round #2 starts up. *sigh*
Awww- "Puck" looks adorable!!! I feel terrible for them being so sick! I know that is tough. I am praying for him to be better asap!
ReplyDeleteFurniture is cute- and I will have the maternity clothes for my mom when she visits next. Much love...
He looks so cute! Love the new bed. I liked my own clothes too. The bella band was my thing to help with that. :)Cat
